Service Businesses are Under-invoicing

Under-invoicing is a bigger issue than service companies realize. In an effort to provide the best customer service and keep employees happy, service companies often end up getting the short end of the stick.

If you own a fleet of vehicles for your business, then you know how difficult it can be keeping track of all your drivers and vehicles. You want to ensure they’re being productive and maximizing profitability. Fleet tracking is an invaluable tool in managing your field staff.

Service businesses, such as plumbing, heating, cooling, HVAC, landscaping, electric, and mechanical contractors are continuously trying to create efficiencies. Unfortunately, they are using the paper-based and phone-based systems, which leads to more work for the staff and creates frustration for the customers and field employees.

IndusTrack’s One Source platform can allow you to increase your revenue. You’ll be able to bill more accurately for your employees’ time on-site. Often times field employees gets wrapped up in the work and forget to write down their time on job-Companies are under-invoicing and losing money on a daily basis because of this reason alone.

There are times when customers will dispute the invoice for the time spent on a job, and this can be easily cleared up with proof from digital records. The software in combination with the AVL module in the truck automatically detects how much time is spent on customer location.

IndusTrack has created a unique algorithm which auto-creates geofences. Now companies don’t have to create thousands of geofences by hand. Using auto-geofences and sophisticated methods, IndusTrack generates a report that shows by customer name the time spent on a job, when the field employees were there and when they left—digital proof for you to invoice accurately and not leave any money on the table.

Fleet Tracking with Verizon Wireless

Is having a good wireless carrier important for fleet tracking? How do wireless carriers such as Verizon play a role in GPS tracking? GPS tracking uses a satellite to track vehicle locations. The location data is then sent back to a tracking company, such as IndusTrack, using a wireless network.
There are instances where data is sent back using satellite technology, but this is very rare. GPS tracking devices have on-board memory. This means that if a cell network is not available, the data can be stored and sent later when a cellular connection is available. This is effective if you are only looking at data at the end of the day or you do not need the real time location of vehicles. IndusTrack uses the Verizon network to provide near real-time information about vehicle locations. The data is sent from the devices every 30 seconds and, through the Verizon network, transmitted very quickly back to the IndusTrack cloud software. There are many GPS tracking companies who send data every one to two minutes, and with a network delay and poor coverage, it can be delayed even further. With 30 second updates and the coverage and reliability of the Verizon network combined with IndusTrack software, dispatchers can focus on doing their jobs instead of the reliability and performance of the data. These quicker updates and the reliable Verizon network provide a very accurate picture of the path of a vehicle. For example: on post route analysis using breadcrumb types of reports, the path is plotted by connecting each update. If the updates come every two mins, with non-reliable networks, it makes it very difficult to trace the exact path. In those two to four minutes, a vehicle might turn a few times or get into an accident. Now, with an unreliable network, critical pieces might be missed. Partnering with Verizon and IndusTrack will give you peace of mind so you can focus on your core business.

Protect Your Assets and Machinery

It’s expensive purchasing equipment and vehicles for a business, and even more pricey when items go missing, or are borrowed without permission. IndusTrack has asset tracking software, so you’ll know when your assets slip outside the normal boundaries. Chances for their retrieval are higher, as you can notify the authorities of their exact location.

The types of assets to be tracked vary. You can track trucks, cars, containers, and construction equipment. Basically, if it’s worth anything, then a tag can be attached, and it can be tracked.

IndusTrack understands your need to know where an asset is located, in an instant. Asset tracking can also be valuable in finding out which site a piece of equipment is located at. If it’s sitting idle, it can be moved onto another site where it can earn income. IndusTrack’s asset tracking software will help you to find your assets with a quick check into the software on your computer, your smart phone, or device. The manager will have the capability of real-time tracking of an asset, whether it is a truck, car, or construction equipment.

Special features of the asset tracking software allow you to generate reports so you can see exactly how your assets are making money. If any are sitting idle for any length of time, you’ll know that they need to be placed back in service for more income generation. You’ll also have the ability to store history, so at any given time you can track differences between two different time periods. These reports can also be shared with the customer, and can be valuable if there are any billing disputes.
Have you ever had an employee “borrow” a piece of equipment? It may have been returned, but this causes wear and tear on a piece of equipment that the business owns. Learning if any of your equipment is still working after hours when it shouldn’t be will allow you to correct the situation.

You can access the IndusTrack smart application on your smart phone, tablet, or device and see at any given time exactly where your assets are located. If they’re on the move, you’ll be able to track them via Google Maps.

Protect your business assets with IndusTrack. This software will provide you with more control over your assets, and will pay off in greater productivity.

Fleet Tracking with Google Maps

Mapping is crucial for planning a route or scheduling for the day, as well as for real-time tracking after jobs are dispatched. In order to run an efficient operation, a dispatcher must have up-to-date maps with real time traffic information. Google has developed a very comprehensive mapping system and created a REST base API, allowing partners like IndusTrack to access the data.

There are many services available for mapping now, such as Bing. One of the big differentiators with Google Maps vs any other map provider is a phenomena called reverse geocoding. This is a process where latitude/longitude coordinates from the satellite are converted into an actual address. The satellite will provide
latitude/longitude numbers based on the signal strength of the satellite. These numbers vary, and the lower the satellite signal strength the more challenging it becomes to reverse geocode and the higher the chance of getting an incorrect actual address.

Google has the best service for reverse geocoding. They use very intelligent algorithms to provide the most accurate date. Hence, it is critical to have a good reverse geocoding process for fleet tracking. Otherwise, the dispatcher will be continuously finding vehicles at the wrong locations.

Using IndusTrack with Google Maps, you’ll be able to view on the map exactly where each vehicle in your fleet is located. This feature works by connecting directly to Google Maps’ servers. Additionally, you will be able to get live traffic updates, as well as satellite and street views.

The built in mapping layer featured on Google Maps allows IndusTrack software to display unique items. A dispatcher can quickly see all of the customers on the map and the nearest vehicle to the customer. They can view jobs and view the status of the job. Dispatchers can quickly see how many jobs are completed by each mobile worker visually. The reaction time is much quicker for the dispatcher if they can see it on the map instead of a grid format.

Having the right tool will make the job a breeze, and not having the right tool is a cause of frustration and unhappy employees.  It is essential that service companies partner with the best fleet tracking company to maximize efficiencies and profitability.
